🪷 Vintage Japanese Yakushi Nyorai – Medicine Buddha Healing Statue – 1970s

This beautiful vintage Yakushi Nyorai (薬師如来) statue dates from the 1970s and originates from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, a region celebrated throughout Japan for over 400 years of bronze casting, copperware production, and Buddhist metalwork.

Yakushi Nyorai, known as the Medicine Buddha, is revered in Japanese Buddhism as the protector of health and healing. He is believed to help alleviate physical suffering, promote spiritual well-being, and guide devotees toward peace and recovery.

This elegant statue is crafted from mixed metal materials with a rich aged bronze kobicha patina. The Buddha is seated peacefully upon a lotus pedestal and framed by an ornate mandorla halo featuring traditional cloud motifs and a beautiful golden inner ring.

In his left hand, Yakushi Nyorai gently holds the sacred medicine jar (Yakko), a symbol of healing, compassion, and the curing of suffering.
