Extremely Rare Japanese 1950s Nambu Tekki Cast Iron Wind Bell – Giant Size

A remarkable and unusually large vintage Japanese cast-iron wind bell, sourced from a Japanese Antique Auction.

This impressive piece features a distinctive traditional architectural design, with a broad curved roof inspired by Japanese temple and pagoda forms. The heavy cast-iron body is decorated with openwork panels and geometric details, while the lower section contains the large hanging bell.

The entire piece has developed an attractive aged green patina, giving it a wonderful weathered appearance that works beautifully with traditional Japanese gardens, outdoor spaces, entrances, temples, tea-house inspired settings, or Japanese-style interiors.

About Nambu Tekki

Nambu Tekki is a traditional Japanese cast-iron craft associated with the Iwate region of northern Japan. Its history reaches back to the 17th century, when tea-kettle makers and foundry craftsmen were brought to the Nambu domain around present-day Morioka. Over time, the tradition expanded beyond tea kettles to include many other cast-iron objects, including decorative wind chimes.

Nambu ironware from the Morioka and Mizusawa areas came to be collectively identified as Nambu Tekki in the 1950s.

Traditional Nambu wind chimes are appreciated for their distinctive, clear cast-iron sound and are still produced today.

Condition
