About Kazari Taru (Decorative Sake Barrels)
Kazari Taru (飾り樽) are decorative versions of traditional Japanese sake barrels that have long been associated with celebrations, festivals, weddings, shrines, and ceremonies.
Full-sized sake barrels, known as Komodaru (菰樽), are often displayed at important events as symbols of prosperity, happiness, and good fortune. Smaller decorative examples such as this one were created as souvenirs, display pieces, and collectible works of folk art.
Today, vintage examples from the mid-20th century are highly sought after by collectors of Japanese cultural artifacts.
