This extremely rare Japanese Koro (香炉) incense burner dates to the 1930s, late Taishō to early Shōwa period. It was acquired directly from a Japanese government auction, ensuring authenticity and historical value.

The piece is crafted from a combination of bronze and brass, a common practice in high-quality korō of this era. The body features dramatic dragon and shishi (lion) reliefs, while the lid is crowned with a sculptural mythical beast. The burner stands on three legs, a traditional form symbolizing balance and protection.

The underside bears a cast maker’s seal, indicating artisan or workshop origin. Traditionally used in Buddhist temples, tea rooms, or refined households, this koro was designed for ceremonial incense burning and spiritual practice.

Today, it serves as a powerful collector’s piece, altar object, or statement item for wabi-sabi and Japanese interiors.
