Carefully crafted over two weeks, this piece transforms a traditional Japanese musical instrument into a powerful and artistic sword display. The base is the original shamisen body (dou), refinished in deep lacquered tones, while the upright support is formed from the instrument’s neck (sao). Natural antler elements have been incorporated into the design, creating a striking balance between samurai spirit and organic Japanese aesthetics.
The shamisen is a three-stringed traditional instrument used in classical Japanese music, theatre, and folk performance. By repurposing a mid-20th-century instrument, this stand preserves history while giving it a bold new presence.
