A truly unusual piece of Japanese handmade art, personally created and signed by me, Bear, combining a vintage Japanese monk figure, a traditional cast-iron wind bell, and natural bamboo.

This one-of-a-kind vertical artwork brings together several elements of Japanese craftsmanship in a single sculptural composition.

At the center is a vintage Japanese monk figure, finished in a dark tone and positioned within a carefully constructed bamboo and wood framework. Above and below the figure are sections of naturally textured bamboo, creating a strong vertical form.

The artwork also incorporates a vintage Japanese cast-iron wind bell, traditionally associated with the Nambu Tekki tradition of northern Japan. The bell adds not only visual interest but also the possibility of enjoying the gentle sound of Japanese ironware when the piece is placed where air can move through it.

The combination of dark metal, warm bamboo, natural wood grain, and the aged appearance of the components gives this piece a wonderful wabi-sabi character.

Handmade & Signed by the Artist

This artwork was personally made by me, Bear, and I guarantee its authorship.

I designed and assembled the bamboo and wooden structure and incorporated the vintage Japanese components into the finished artwork.

It is signed by me as the artist/maker.

This is not a mass-produced decorative piece. It is a one-of-a-kind artwork created in my workshop from selected Japanese vintage materials and components.

Vintage Japanese Monk Figure

The central figure depicts a traditionally dressed Japanese/Buddhist-style monk or religious figure.

The figure has a dark finish and is mounted within the bamboo structure. Its detailed clothing and seated/standing posture give the artwork a distinctly Japanese character.

I have intentionally not assigned the figure to a specific Buddhist deity or historical monk because there is not enough evidence to make that identification with certainty.

Nambu Tekki Wind Bell

The artwork incorporates a Japanese cast-iron wind bell.

Nambu Tekki is a traditional Japanese cast-iron craft associated with Iwate Prefecture and has a history of more than 400 years. Cast iron has historically been used for many Japanese objects, including tea utensils, household objects, and bells.

Traditional Nambu-style wind bells are appreciated for their distinctive, clear ringing tone.

The wind bell in this artwork is an older/vintage component, incorporated into my handmade composition.

Natural Bamboo Construction

The bamboo is one of the most visually important elements of the piece.

The natural irregularities, grain, color variation, and surface character of bamboo have been preserved rather than trying to make the material appear perfectly uniform.

This gives the artwork a strong Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic, where natural materials and signs of age are part of the beauty.

Condition

Good vintage/handmade condition with natural signs of age and use.

The vintage monk figure and wind bell show age-related surface characteristics, including minor marks, discoloration, and wear.

The bamboo and wooden components also have natural variations, small imperfections, and surface marks consistent with their age and handmade construction.

These characteristics are not considered defects; they contribute to the character and individuality of the artwork.

Please study all photographs carefully. The photographs show the actual one-of-a-kind piece you will receive.

A Note From the Maker

I enjoy working with old Japanese materials and giving them a new life rather than allowing beautiful traditional objects to disappear into storage.

For this artwork, I combined bamboo, wood, a vintage monk figure, and an older Japanese wind bell into a completely new composition.

I personally made this piece and guarantee that I am the artist/maker.

The individual vintage components have their own history, while the finished artwork is my own creation.
