Japanese Vintage Hato Pigeon Bamboo Art | Handmade & Signed by Artist

One of a kind ,  unique and charming piece of Japanese handmade folk art, personally created by me, Bear, featuring three beautifully detailed Hato (鳩) pigeon figures arranged on a vertical bamboo and wooden sculpture.

This unusual artwork combines natural bamboo, carved and finished wood, and individually decorated pigeon figures to create a distinctive Japanese decorative piece with a strong handmade character.

The artwork is personally handmade by me and signed by me as the artist/maker. I guarantee its authorship and authenticity as my own work.

The vertical composition gives the piece a wonderful presence while keeping a relatively small footprint, making it suitable for a Japanese-inspired interior, collection display, entrance, study, or quiet wabi-sabi space.

Hato — Japanese Pigeon

The three birds represent Hato (鳩), the Japanese word for pigeon or dove.

Birds are a familiar subject in Japanese decorative arts and traditional imagery, often appreciated for their connection with nature and everyday life. I chose the pigeon motif for this piece because of its simple and natural character.

Handmade Japanese Craftsmanship

This is not a mass-produced decorative item there is only one existed!!!! 

I personally made the main bamboo and wooden structure and arranged the individual bird figures as part of the finished composition. The warm brown finish, natural bamboo, carved elements, and small hand-decorated birds give the piece its individual character.

Because it is handmade, small variations and imperfections are part of the artwork and should be appreciated as part of its character.

Original Wooden Presentation Box

The artwork comes with the wooden presentation/storage box shown in the photographs.

The box was specifically built to accommodate this artwork rather than being a generic box. It provides a practical way to store and protect the piece when it is not being displayed.

Both the artwork and its accompanying wooden box are included.

Good vintage condition with signs of age and handmade character.

The artwork shows natural surface variations, minor marks, and signs of age consistent with its period and materials.

The wooden presentation box also shows age-related wear, including surface marks, scratches, discoloration, and general signs of use/storage.

The small pigeon figures have individually painted details, and minor variations or small imperfections may be present.

A Note From the Maker

I have always enjoyed working with traditional Japanese materials, particularly wood and bamboo, and this piece reflects that appreciation.

Rather than creating something perfectly uniform or mass-produced, I wanted the natural materials and handmade construction to remain visible. The result is a piece with its own character and small imperfections — qualities I personally value in Japanese craftsmanship.
