Hand-carved from solid wood and finished in rich red lacquer with bold black accents, it embodies the remarkable craftsmanship of mid-century Japanese folk artisans.

The fierce expression, oversized mouth, expressive eyebrows, and beautifully painted gold-colored eyes and teeth give this magnificent lion head an impressive presence. The articulated tongue remains inside the mouth, while the original festival cloth cover accompanies the piece, preserving its authenticity and history.

To ensure durability while respecting its original appearance, the tongue suspension cord has been carefully replaced with copper wire. This sympathetic restoration provides additional strength without detracting from the mask's traditional character.
