Authentic Meiji-era (1868–1912) Takatori-style ceramic mizusashi, a traditional tea ceremony water jar used for storing fresh water during the preparation of matcha.
The jar features a beautifully thin ceramic structure with a rich brown glaze accented by natural white glaze drips, a highly prized aesthetic in Japanese tea ceramics. It is topped with its original black lacquered bamboo wood lid with a small handle.
It comes complete with its original aged wooden storage box, traditionally used to protect valuable tea ceremony utensils.
The kanji written inside the box records that this piece was formerly owned by Tōdai-ji Temple in what is now Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, adding rare historical provenance.
