Japanese Bizen Ware Incense Burner Koro with Wooden Box Antique
Japanese Bizen Ware Incense Burner Koro with Wooden Box Antique
🪔 Extremely Rare 1940s Japanese Antique Bizen-yaki Incense Burner (Kōro) – Handmade Ceramic with Wooden Box
This authentic and extremely rare Bizen-yaki (備前焼) incense burner, known in Japanese as a Kōro (香炉), was handcrafted in Japan during the 1940s.
Bizen Ware is one of Japan's oldest and most celebrated pottery traditions, with a history spanning over 1,000 years. Unlike glazed ceramics, Bizen pottery is fired using traditional kiln techniques that create unique natural colors, textures, and firing marks, making every piece completely one of a kind.
Traditionally used for incense-burning rituals, this beautiful Kōro would have been perfectly suited for a Buddhist altar, tea ceremony room, meditation space, or traditional Japanese interior.
The piece retains its original rustic character, displaying the earthy tones, natural kiln effects, and wabi-sabi beauty for which Bizen Ware is renowned.
Included is a wooden storage box for protection and display. While the box is not original to the piece, it provides safe storage and complements its presentation beautifully.
Sourced directly from a Japanese Government Antique Auction, this is a genuine antique and a wonderful opportunity to acquire an authentic example of traditional Japanese ceramic craftsmanship.
