An extremely rare small Japanese drawer box crafted from yakisugi (charred cedar) wood, dating to the late Edo to early Meiji period (1800s). This authentic piece was acquired from a Japanese government antique auction and reflects true utilitarian craftsmanship of historical Japan.
The box features a solid outer case with iron hardware and three inner drawers. The drawers slide smoothly and can be locked and opened without issue, although the original key is no longer present. The original drawer handles are missing, adding to the honest wabi-sabi character of the piece.
