This is an authentic Japanese Okinawan (Ryukyu) handmade ceramic plate, dating to the 1980s (Showa period) and sourced directly from a Japanese government auction.

The plate is entirely hand-formed and hand painted, featuring vibrant iron-red (aka-e) and green enamels over a soft white glaze — a color palette strongly associated with traditional Okinawa (Tsuboya-style) pottery. The lively scrolling floral motifs and central emblem reflect the warm, expressive character unique to Okinawan ceramic arts.

Included with the piece is its original wooden box (tomobako) bearing bold calligraphy, along with original paperwork, confirming authenticity and adding strong collector value. Such complete sets are increasingly difficult to find.

Okinawan pottery differs from mainland Japanese ceramics through its bold decoration, folk-art influence, and cultural ties to the former Ryukyu Kingdom. This plate is suitable for display, collection, or refined Japanese interior décor.
