Own a fascinating piece of traditional Japanese smoking history with this authentic Japanese Kiseru pipe (煙管) dating to the 1960s Showa period, sourced directly from an official Japanese Government Antique Auction.

The Kiseru is one of Japan’s most iconic traditional smoking tools, recognized for its elegant long stem, refined proportions, and centuries of cultural significance.

This vintage example features a beautiful combination of brass, natural bamboo, and period plastic components, creating a striking contrast of materials while preserving the classic Japanese silhouette.

Over decades, the brass has developed a rich natural patina, while the bamboo has matured beautifully, giving the piece warmth, character, and unmistakable authenticity.

🏯 About Kiseru (煙管)

The Kiseru pipe has been used in Japan since the Edo period (1603–1868) and became an iconic part of Japanese daily life for centuries.

Unlike Western tobacco pipes, Kiseru were designed for smoking kizami tobacco, a finely shredded tobacco requiring only a small amount per use.

Kiseru were often carried in decorative cases attached to kimono and were seen not only as practical smoking tools but also as symbols of taste, craftsmanship, and personal style.

Today, original vintage examples are increasingly sought after by collectors of Japanese cultural artifacts.
