This is an authentic Japanese Satsuma-yaki kōro (香炉) incense burner, dating back to the late 1800s Edo to early Meiji period, sourced directly from a Japanese government antique auction.

Handcrafted by skilled Japanese artisans, this beautiful antique incense burner showcases the unmistakable elegance of traditional Satsuma ceramic artistry, admired worldwide for its fine crackle glaze, intricate hand-painted decoration, and luxurious gold detailing.

Unlike later export pieces, early domestic Satsuma ware from the 1800s was often left unsigned, making the absence of a signature fully consistent with authentic period craftsmanship.

The rounded body stands gracefully on three traditional feet and is decorated with elaborate motifs inspired by classical Japanese aesthetics, making it an exceptional display piece for collectors of Japanese antiques, Buddhist art, tea ceremony objects, and Meiji-era ceramics.

This set includes:

  • Authentic antique Satsuma ceramic kōro
  • Wooden storage box
  • Decorative Japanese furoshiki cloth (added by our store for presentation purposes — not original to the piece)

⚠️ Condition Notice – Please Read Carefully

The lid has visible antique damage/chipping, which is reflected in the lower price.

Despite this imperfection, the piece remains highly collectible, historically important, and displays beautifully with strong wabi-sabi character.

This is not a reproduction—this is a genuine over 100-year-old Japanese ceramic treasure.
