There are antique Rin bells, and then there are pieces like this.

This exceptionally rare Japanese Rin bell set features a massive 8-inch bronze/copper singing bowl dating to the early 1900s, paired with a beautifully crafted 1940s wooden temple stand decorated with traditional 24K gold-painted details. Acquired directly from a Japanese Government Auction, this is an authentic temple-quality piece that would be difficult to find even within Japan today.

For over a century, Rin bells have been used in Japanese Buddhist temples, family altars, and meditation spaces. Their deep resonant tone is traditionally used to mark the beginning and end of prayers, meditation sessions, and religious ceremonies. Larger examples such as this were often reserved for temples or significant household altars due to their powerful sound and impressive presence.

The bowl displays beautiful age-related patina developed naturally over decades, while the ornate wooden stand showcases elegant traditional Japanese craftsmanship with gold-painted accents. The set also includes a traditional Rin striker and decorative cushion.

What makes this example particularly special is its size. Large antique Rin bells from the early 1900s are increasingly difficult to locate, especially when accompanied by their matching stand and accessories.

Whether displayed as a centerpiece in a meditation room, Buddhist altar, Japanese interior, or serious antique collection, this set carries both historical significance and remarkable visual presence.
