Own a genuine piece of Japanese ceramic history with this authentic Kutani ware incense burner (香炉 / kōro), dating to the late Meiji or early Taishō period (circa 1900–1930).

This beautifully hand-painted burner features traditional Kutani floral decorations and charming bird motifs, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistic detail for which Kutani ceramics are renowned worldwide. Rich colors, delicate brushwork, and intricate decorative borders make this a wonderful display piece for collectors of Japanese antiques.

This item was acquired through an official Japanese government auction and is believed to be an authentic early 20th-century example.

Please note that this piece has sustained interior damage during its long history. There is a noticeable chip to the inner rim of the burner body. Fortunately, this damage is concealed when the lid is in place and does not significantly affect its display appearance. The interior of the lid also shows heavy burn marks and residue from decades of genuine incense use.

Because of these condition issues, the price has been significantly reduced compared to similar Kutani incense burners in excellent condition.

Despite its imperfections, this remains a highly decorative and historically interesting antique that embodies the Japanese wabi-sabi appreciation of age, use, and imperfection.
