This is a genuine Japanese antique bronze mirror dating to the 1800s Edo period, sourced directly from a Japanese Government Auction.
The mirror is beautifully hand-engraved with a classical scene featuring:
🕊️ Cranes (Tsuru) – symbols of longevity and good fortune
🌳 Bonsai Pine Tree – representing endurance, harmony, and wabi-sabi beauty
Flowing water and traditional landscape motifs
Along the left edge is the original engraved kanji signature, reading:
藤原長吉 – Fujiwara Nagayoshi
A known craftsman name associated with fine Edo-era metalwork.
These mirrors were traditionally used not only as personal grooming tools but also as spiritual and decorative objects, believed to ward off evil and bring clarity.
