1927 Japanese Signed Sake Bottle Large Pottery Vase
1927 Japanese Signed Sake Bottle Large Pottery Vase
This exceptionally rare signed Japanese sake bottle from 1927 is a beautiful surviving example of early Showa era craftsmanship and traditional Japanese pottery culture.
Hand-thrown from porcelain clay and finished with rich underglaze cobalt calligraphy, this tall ceremonial vessel carries nearly a century of history. The inscription includes a clearly dated Showa 2 (1927) marking, making it a precisely dated historical artifact from pre-war Japan.
Its elegant pear-shaped silhouette, thick glazed rim, and naturally aged surface give the bottle a timeless presence that works beautifully in both antique collections and Japanese-inspired interiors.
Large sake bottles of this style were often commissioned by breweries, shrines, or temples for ceremonial use, seasonal celebrations, or important dedications. Pieces with original hand-painted inscriptions and exact dates are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in this larger display size.
The flowing cobalt brushwork reflects the balance of artistry and functionality valued during the early Showa period, when traditional pottery techniques still played an important role in Japanese daily life and ceremonial culture.
At approximately 34 cm tall and weighing around 1.7 kg before packing, this piece has a strong and impressive display presence.
