A rare and original antique: This stunning lacquered wooden Jingasa (陣笠) dates back to the 1850s, a time marking the final years of the Samurai era in Japan. While this item dates to the Edo Period (江戸時代) and pre-Boshin War (戊辰戦争, 1868–1869), the interior padded liner with hemp and cloth supports may be a post-WWII restoration—common among museum-quality preserved pieces.
