This exceptionally rare 19th-century Japanese Fudō Myōō (不動明王) wooden statue is a powerful Buddhist protector figure, sourced directly from a Japanese Government Antique Auction.

Fudō Myōō, also known as Acala, is one of the Five Wisdom Kings in Esoteric Shingon Buddhism. He is depicted standing within roaring flames, holding a sword to cut through ignorance and a rope to bind evil spirits — symbolizing unwavering faith, discipline, and protection.

This statue is finely hand-carved from solid wood and retains its original polychrome pigments with dramatic flame halo details. The base is beautifully finished with 24K gold paint, giving the piece a sacred presence. At approximately 30 cm tall, it is an imposing altar-size sculpture rarely found in this condition.

🏮 Cultural & Spiritual Background
Fudō Myōō is revered as the immovable guardian who destroys delusion and protects practitioners from spiritual harm. Such statues were commonly enshrined in temple halls or private altars, and examples with original paint and gold embellishment are now extremely scarce due to centuries of devotional use.

This is not merely a statue — it is a sacred relic of Japan’s spiritual heritage.
